Thanks to two days of snowblowing and dumptrucking, the venue put together a good 2.5k loop for the race today. Luckily, our race was 10k, so 4 laps was quite bearable, but it would have been difficult to keep track of 6 laps for the men! I started out as Caitlin Patterson (UVM, 17th World Juniors 2010) went by for her second lap, and I was feeling fresh, so I proceeded to try to stay with her. I quickly blew up and felt really tired from starting too fast. I tried to focus on staying smooth through the next two laps, that was my goal going into it- to ski smooth the first 3 and then really hurt on the last one. But I ended up skiing smooth for the first 5 min and then dying and hurting and hammering for the last 30. When asked how the race went, my most common response was "I don't really know". I hadn't felt good at all, but in the past I've had some really good results on days when I didn't feel very good, and I hadn't gotten any splits, so I had no idea. An hour later, after cooling down, I came back to clean my skis, and Boobs held three fingers up! I was incredibly surprised to hear that I finished 3rd junior, 19th overall! To my surprise, I ended up skiing relatively fast! Hopefully this will secure me at least a second start at World Juniors!! After 4 laps today, 2 laps for the 5k skate tomorrow should be a lot of fun!!
